This week’s Friday I’m in Love is all about little touches for the hair that are unique and fun.
First up, these floral pins came up today on Etsy and I think they are adorable. I love the fun color!
These custom fabric hairpieces can do double duty! They can be a hairpiece or corsage and the artist will customize them to fit your color scheme.
Remember Rhiannon and Tony’s stunning wedding at Old St. Hilary’s in Tiburon? Rhiannon rocked a birdcage veil and it really set the tone and style for her wedding. Try making your own! You can buy a yard of Russian net (or French net for a softer feel) for $8 a yard online and 100 Layer Cake offers a great little tutorial here. Add a flower clip or feather hair piece for some drama and you have a one of a kind accent for your day.
This past Wednesday was my birthday and this week’s “Friday I’m in Love” goes out to Jesse (my husband) for making sure my birthday was amazing. He not only planned a great evening last night (umm massage at Burke Williams??) , but also arranged for me to get out of town this weekend sans children. Yay! I get some time with my sister and a girlfriend on Saturday and get to snowboard on Sunday- woo hoo! I love you Jesse, you are the best!
While there are a ton of creative ideas of how to get the ring to the ceremony, this post focuses solely on items that a ring bearer could carry the rings on. I love all three of these and think they would all be great for adding some character to your ceremony.
This is the perfect addition to an earthy, eco- friendly wedding. I love the incorporation of succulents and the bright pop of green. You can find it at April Hiler Designs on Etsy.
I love fabric flowers and I will focus on them in another post, but this ring pillow caught my eye. I though it would look lovely at an eclectic, artsy wedding. You can find in also on Etsy at Evie’s shop
The third one is really sweet. I would be adorable at a vintage inspired wedding. Family Attic has a great site on Etsy, if you haven’t seen it yet, get on it!
One of my very favorite places in the South Bay is having their Harvest Wone Festival tomorrow. Swing by if you can- it is great for the entire family. The Mountain Winery not only hosts great concerts during the summer, but also produces yummy wine and is a breathtaking spot for a wedding. A wedding at the Mountain Winery is sophisticated and private with views to die for. If you are still searching for a wedding venue, you should definately check it out. They recently did some extensive renovations and I love the outcome. There are terraces all over the place, amazing views, and a sophisticated feel.
This month has been crazy and I haven’t had a chance to post in this category- sorry! I have a lot of weddings to get through and post, but for now, I thought I would post a few things for adding color to your event. You can see my first post for adding color to your even here.
Amy Butler is an artist who makes all sorts of things from scrapbooking supplies and cards to sewing patterns and fabrics. I love the idea of making place mats or runners for a wedding table setting out of her gorgeous fabrics. Mix up the patterns but stay in the same color scheme and you have a colorful chic backdrop for your table settings.
You may remember my recent post of Greta and Jeff’s late summer Nestldown Wedding in Los Gatos. They incoorporated eggplants and grapes into their centerpieces for color. You could do bowls of crisp green apples, platters of artichokes, or baskets of heirloom tomatoes. The possibilities are endless and can be sent home as favors. Super easy- and a “green” idea!
Another centerpiece idea that has a vintage, but modern look is metal planters with succulents plants. They are low and allow guests to see each other at the table and have wonderful texture. They are living and can be sent home with guests of honor to live on at their homes.
I am gearing up for the wedding of Patrice and James in Half Moon Bay at the Oceano Hotel this weekend- should be beautiful! Happy friday and enjoy your weekend!
This past week we got big news…. our house sold! It had been on the market for 5 weeks, not that long, but long enough that the process of selling (open houses, etc) had gotten old! Selling a house that you love is hard- especially in this economy where you don’t necessarily get what you think your house should be worth. I have stayed pretty positive about the experience, but will admit I have had my fair share of pity parties too! When I am in that sort of funk, I usually seek out something that helps get my head on straight again, helps me remember what really matters- you know? So coming across a blog called An Inconvenient Tumor was just what I needed this week. It is the online diary of Christie and Bryan and “and their commitment to life, each other and kicking cancer’s big fat ass.” Just thought I would share it in case any of you need a little something like that this week. I think their story and attitudes are pretty inspiring.
Another find this week that I LOVE and I am totally doing… Secret Agent L. They specialize in anonymous acts of kindness and day brightening. If you have ever wanted to be an undercover agent- here is your chance! You can sign up for their affiliate program and Secret Agent L will send you your assignment. It could be leaving a note on a bench to be found telling a stranger that they are awesome or leaving dog treats in baggies at a dog park. The whole point is to do something little that will brighten someone else’s day. If we all did this, I think the planet would shine a little brighter!
Have you discovered Wedding Chicks yet? If you haven’t, head on over! I am a preferred vendor for San Jose/ Monterey. Woohoo!
I have a great wedding today here in Los Gatos at Nestldown. I am doing a photobooth at this wedding and am so excited about it! This week has been a hectic one, one of those where you feel like you are barely keeping afloat. Not in a a bad way- just really busy. 3 weddings, a family portrait and an all day commercial shoot. That is alot of images to sort through!
So, the first shout out for this Friday is to Jesse- my wonderful husband of nearly 6 years. He took two days off work this week so I could do what I needed to do without worrying about childcare, he has cleaned up after me all week, and has been so supportive of me doing what I love. He is a fantastic daddy and I admit I am a little jealous when the kids scream “yay!” When they realize they get the whole day with daddy. I love him love him love him.
Here we are on California Screamin’.
This Friday I am also feeling some love for Facebook. I woke up this morning to a friend request from my oldest friend whom I thought I had lost contact with forever. I met her when my family lived in Venezuela (my dad was transferred there for 2 years- when I was in 1st and 2nd grade). After my family moved back to California when I was 8, Johanna and I kept in contact writing letters- good old snail mail. Her family would come visit occasionally and once, when I was 17, I got to go to Finland to visit her family. I have very fond memories of that trip- her wonderful family and friends and the beauty of Finland. I am so excited to be back in contact with her! Yay Facebook!
My dad- it is his birthday today and he is currently in Peru visiting his parents and siblings. Happy Birthday Dad! I love you! My grandpa turns 89 this week as well, so they are all down there celebrating together- I wish I could be there!
This past weekend, I second shot a wedding in Palo Alto and loved so many of the touches the bride and groom chose for the day. The bride is quite creative and did some fun things to personalize their wedding, one of which I thought I would share today. A sweet sign welcomed guests as they came to the house for the backyard wedding and it set the tone for the entire event. Don’t you love it?
This time of the year the tomatoes are going crazy! I love this idea from Martha Stewart Weddings for favor centerpieces. Aren’t they perfect for decorating a late summer wedding? Fresh tomatoes smell like summer, add pops of color (especially if you incorporate heirloom tomatoes), and would be a delicious favor for your guests to take home.
Julie and Julia- I loved this movie. I know there are people out there saying it was slow… this isn’t an action flick! Go see it- it’ll get you inspired to get yourself a cute apron (Anthropologie has sweet ones!) and cook!!!
I have a crazy weekend ahead- two weddings and then a commercial shoot on Monday, so no relaxing for me this weekend! I hope you all have a fun relaxing one!
I missed last week- sorry! It has been crazy around this place. My husband and I decided to put our house on the market and it has been so much work to get it ready! It looks amazing though- I think I will have to dig through old photos so you can all see the before and after of our place. We did a complete remodel and it looks amazing. Whew- I couldn’t miss two weeks in a row, so here we go!
I came across these sweet little birch boxes from NHWoodcreations on Etsy. I think they are perfect for a low key event to an upscale one, they can be dressed up or down. Imagine them filled with a mound of brilliant green moss- perfect for placecards!
DIY ruffly belt via 100 Layer Cake- isn’t this just delicious? It would dress up a simple dress- you could do an accent color… gorgeous!
True Blood- I am obsessed. Not as bad as I was with Twilight (I think my kids were ignored for days on end while I read!), but really- I am a little sad that the season is almost over. If you haven’t seen it, add it to your Netflix to catch up and then follow it on HBO. And to top it off- Sookie and Bill are getting married in real life!
Happy Friday everyone! Jesse took the day off today so we can take the kids somewhere fun before a big work weekend. Our house is going on the market and though I am a little sad about it as we love our place and neighborhood, I am really trying to focus on the adventure ahead and stay positive. Sooo, without further adieu, here are some Friday gems.
I saw this a couple times on Facebook yesterday and it made me smile and laugh out loud. When the bride finally walked down the aisle, I got chills- I think it is so fabulous. I love love love when couples make their wedding day unique. I have been to more than my fair share of weddings, and I know it is easy in our culture to think your event “should” be a certain way, so when a bride and groom let their personality shine through my heart pitter pats. It is what makes their wedding memorable. So check this out if you haven’t.
Blackberries- I love them. They remind me of my childhood, every time I eat one, I am taken back to the Oregon coast and picking berries on my grandparents property. My grandma makes the most delicious pies- my siblings and I would pick bucket fulls in hopes of getting a slice of homemade pie with Umpqua ice cream. This summer, we have been taking our kids to Swanton Berry Farm on the coast near Davenport for strawberry picking and you know what? Blackberry picking time begins now! I love this place because their berries are organic. Pick some berries, grab a picnic lunch and enjoy the nearby gorgeous beaches.
Sunday Suppers- I know, I know, I blogged about them a while back. I am really loving the sneak peek they just posted and can’t wait to see more. Wouldn’t that cake be amazing at a wedding? I love the turquoise and tangerine combination. It is so fresh!
